Profile in Brief
EXPERIENCE: Arbitrator, Mediator and Attorney. Former Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Meggitt-USA, Inc. (2007 – 2009). I held positions with K&F Industries, Inc. (acquired by Meggitt) that included Vice President, Secretary, General Counsel and Board member (1989 – 2007). Before that I was an officer, director and associate general counsel of APL Corporation (NYSE) and in private practice a founder and member of the general business law firm of Chekow & Kisner, P.C.
CURRENT ACTIVITIES: I am an arbitrator, mediator and general business attorney, practicing ADR under Kisner Dispute Resolution Services. I serve on neutral rosters at Cornell University (Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution); FINRA; the Small Business Arbitration Center of New York; and the NY County Supreme Court ADR Roster (commercial division). I am a trustee for various entities including a qualified employee savings plan and a director of a not-for-profit entity. I am a hearing officer for the New York State and Local Retirement System.
EDUCATION: B.A. (psychology) from Syracuse University; J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law; and certificated from Cornell University in Alternative Dispute Resolution (Professional Neutral Development Program). Various ADR training and CLE that includes NYSBA Commercial Arbitration, Small Claims Court Arbitration, FINRA training, Advanced Mediation training and Mediation Mastery programs.
ASSOCIATIONS: Include memberships with the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association (Business and Dispute Resolution sections). Member of NY County Association of Arbitrators. Member of The Association for Conflict Resolution of Greater New York. Sponsor and grant advisor for a donor advised fund at Long Island Community Foundation. Board member and officer of Kimmel Housing Development Foundation Inc. and of Selfhelp Realty Group (also audit committee member).
